Manon Vienna

Manon — Benjamin Bernheim & Kristina Mkhitaryan at the Vienna State Opera

Two of the most exciting voices of their generation unite in Massenet's irresistible Parisian romance: Benjamin Bernheim — hailed as the finest French tenor of his time — sings Chevalier Des Grieux alongside the stunning Kristina Mkhitaryan as Manon, whose voice has been compared to a young Netrebko for its depth, smooth legato, and laser-sharp high notes. Bertrand de Billy returns to conduct Andrei Şerban's elegant 1930s-set production, which premiered in 2007 with Netrebko and Alagna.

Massenet's Manon is French opera at its most seductive — from the famous Gavotte to the heart-wrenching Saint-Sulpice scene and the devastating finale. The story of a young woman torn between love and luxury, set to music of irresistible melodic beauty, is one of the great tragic love stories of the operatic repertoire.
