New production premiere: 7 February 2026. Director Philipp Grigorian presents Verdi's dark tale of love destroyed by political intrigue as a surreal nightmare — the story told from the memory of the surviving father Miller, who remembers the tragic events like a psychedelic graphic novel. With video design by Patrick K.-H. and costumes by Vlada Pomirkovanaya, this is one of the most anticipated new productions of the Vienna season.

The extraordinary Nadine Sierra — one of the most acclaimed sopranos in the world today — sings the title role alongside British-Italian tenor sensation Freddie De Tommaso as Rodolfo. Michele Mariotti, one of the finest Verdi conductors of his generation, leads the Vienna State Opera Orchestra, with George Petean as Miller, Roberto Tagliavini as Count Walter, and Marko Mimica as Wurm. Luisa Miller is a hidden Verdi gem — intimate, emotionally devastating, and filled with magnificent music that bridges the early and late Verdi styles.
