Un ballo in maschera Vienna

Un ballo in maschera

Passion, politics and a fateful masked ball collide in Verdi's Un ballo in maschera — a gripping tragedy of forbidden love and betrayal, wrapped in some of the composer's most glorious melodies.

The opera follows a man torn between duty and his love for the wife of his closest friend, as a prophecy of doom hangs over him and a conspiracy quietly closes in. Verdi balances sweeping romance, dark foreboding and even flashes of glittering wit, building to the unforgettable masked ball where destinies are sealed. It stands among his most dramatically rich and musically dazzling works.

The Vienna State Opera provides the perfect stage — a temple of opera whose history, acoustics and sheer grandeur have drawn the world's finest voices for generations.
