Anna Netrebko as Abigaille — Verdi's Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves
À propos de l'événement
Nabucco — Anna Netrebko at the Vienna State Opera
Anna Netrebko — the undisputed queen of opera — delivers a powerhouse performance as the vengeful Abigaille in Verdi's early masterpiece, alongside the Mongolian baritone sensation Amartuvshin Enkhbat in the title role and Alexander Vinogradov as the bass Zaccaria. Marco Armiliato conducts Günter Krämer's visually striking production, whose central concept — giant projections of Hebrew letters and sacred texts covering the entire stage — visually mirrors Nabucco's descent into madness.
Nabucco (1842) is the opera that made Verdi famous overnight. Its chorus Va, pensiero — the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves — is one of the most stirring pieces of music ever written, so deeply felt that it has been proposed as Italy's national anthem. Combined with Netrebko's volcanic Abigaille and Enkhbat's commanding Nabucco, this is Verdi at his most viscerally exciting.
