Nicola Alaimo, Dmitry Korchak & Nina Minasyan — Donizetti's Comedy
About the Event
Don Pasquale — Donizetti at the Vienna State Opera
Irina Brook's candy-coloured, present-day staging of Donizetti's most beloved comedy is pure theatrical joy — a rollercoaster of laughter, disguises, and slapstick that culminates in a gloriously over-the-top finale. Francesco Ivan Ciampa conducts a dream bel canto cast.
The great Sicilian baritone Nicola Alaimo stars as the foolish old bachelor Don Pasquale, with Russian tenor Dmitry Korchak as the dashing Ernesto, the brilliant Armenian soprano Nina Minasyan as the scheming Norina, and Stefan Astakhov as Dr. Malatesta. Donizetti's final comic masterpiece (1843) is packed with vocal fireworks — from Ernesto's soaring serenade Com'è gentil to Norina's sparkling Quel guardo il cavaliere and the famous rapid-fire patter duet Cheti, cheti.
