The famous tenor-baritone duet Au fond du temple saint ("In the depths of the holy temple") is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed — a soaring hymn to friendship that has moved audiences for over 160 years. With Flórez's legendary silvery tone and Tézier's velvet baritone, this promises to be one of the highlights of the international opera season. Bizet's early masterpiece shimmers with exotic orchestral colour, evoking moonlit tropical shores and ancient temples on the coast of Ceylon.
